After missing the last edition of the African Cup of Nations, a real thunderbolt for the country, Ghana is returning to international competition and is preparing to compete in its fifth World Cup in its history.
It is therefore time for big maneuvers for the Black Stars and their new coach Carlos Queiroz. Just appointed on April 13, the Portuguese made some strong choices in his pre-list of 28 players who will complete a preparation course for the World Cup in Wales.
Indeed, André Ayew (36 years old, Breda), Salis Abdul Samed (26 years old, Nice) and Joseph Paintsil (28 years old, Los Angeles Galaxy) were excluded from the Ghanaian group. So many absences in addition to those of Mohammed Kudus (25 years old, Tottenham), Mohammed Salisu (27 years old, Monaco) and Tariq Lamptey (25 years old, Fiorentina), injured.
Ghana with Jordan Ayew and Ernest Nuamah
Conversely, Carlos Queiroz did summon Jordan Ayew (34 years old, Leicester), Ernest Nuamah (22 years old, Lyon) – despite only 32 minutes played this season due to a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in the left knee which occurred on April 5, 2025 -, Antoine Semenyo (26 years old, Manchester City), Inaki Williams (31 years old, Athletic Bilbao), Kojo Peprah Oppong (21 years old, Nice) as well as Augustine Boakye (25 years old, Saint-Étienne), a first for the midfielder.
Ghana’s main objective will be to escape from Group L, one of the toughest in the World Cup, made up of England, Croatia and Panama.
