The time to say goodbye has come for David Alaba. After five contrasting but trophy-rich seasons under the colors of Real Madrid, the Austrian defender formalized his departure from the Spanish capital club through an emotional message this Sunday. In an open letter addressed to supporters, the player took stock of a five-year term marked by historic peaks but also by injuries which slowed him down during his time in the Iberian capital:
“Thank you, Real Madrid. I’ve been through a lot in football and I know that emotional moments are just part of the journey. But saying goodbye to Real Madrid is something truly special – and without a doubt another truly emotional moment in my career. When I arrived in Madrid with my family and friends, I came with excitement, big dreams and big expectations. What I have experienced over the last five years is something I will carry with me for the rest of my life.»
