Despite a fairly ordinary second part of the season with Olympique de Marseille, Ethan Nwaneri will fly to the United States to join the England team before the World Cup. With a very specific role.

Scorer in his first match against Lens, Ethan Nwaneri did not meet expectations during his loan to Marseille in the second part of the season. The Arsenal player even spent the last four days of Ligue 1 on the bench, without coming into play once.

Despite this, the English international hopeful (19 years old) received a phone call from Thomas Tuchel in recent days. The instruction? Head to Florida to join the English selection training camp.

Those who saw the list of the Three Lions on Friday can rest assured, Nwaneri was not preferred to Phil Foden or Cole Palmer, who are the main “victims” of Thomas Tuchel’s choices in his list for the World Cup (with Harry Maguire and Trent Alexander-Arnold). The young attacking midfielder is called up as a training partner for the start of the A’s preparation.

Ethan Nwaneri is not the only one in this case. Alex Scott, Josh King and Rio Ngumoha were also called in to strengthen Tuchel’s group during training sessions. This is also the case for Jason Steele, the Brighton veteran (35 years old), who will play the role of fourth goalkeeper throughout the tournament.
