The trend is gaining momentum. While OM will be forced to sell during the summer transfer window to balance their accounts with the non-qualification in the Champions League next season, Mason Greenwood is emerging as one of the main contenders for a departure.
Guest of FCMarseille, the journalist from The TeamMathieu Grégoire spoke at length about the Greenwood file. On this occasion, the person who follows the Marseille club for the sports daily confirmed that the 24-year-old English striker should leave the Marseille city this summer. And he sees OM achieve a record sale!
“The clear trend is at the start. But I remind you that Manchester United still owns 40% of the player’s rights, and therefore of the transfer, that we therefore need a good sum, that we have to find a club… And I don’t have the impression that he is a fan of going to Saudi Arabia, so that closes a market. England is closed too, there isn’t much choice left. Maybe a big Spanish club. Italian too, but that’s a lot of money for them to spend, all the same”indicated Mathieu Grégoire.
“The transfer cannot be below 70 or 80”
And to continue: “ In Spain, maybe Atlético. For me, the transfer cannot be below 70 or 80 million euros. In the sense that, it’s roughly a value where I see Anthony Gordon, the Newcastle striker, being estimated, at around 80 or 90 million euros, compared to Bayern. Knowing that English prices, when you play in their championship, are always very expensive. Greenwood for me is in those waters too. Atlético is the only club where I could see him going, on the other hand, if he is at Atlético, he will run. »
Arriving in Marseille in the summer of 2024 from Manchester United for 26 million euros, Mason Greenwood could therefore bring very big returns to the residents of the Vélodrome, who will however only receive 60% of the amount of a potential transfer. As a reminder, the biggest sale in OM history remains Michy Batshuayi, transferred to Chelsea for 39 million euros in 2016.
