The Marseille adventure ends here for Mehdi Benatia. A relief for the Moroccan, constantly under pressure and considered one of the main culprits for the chaotic season at Olympique de Marseille.

The former defender announced his resignation on February 9, the day after the “manita” inflicted by Paris Saint-Germain on OM. A few hours later, he reversed this decision, seeing his responsibilities extended to “all sporting activities”.
Benatia at OM, a journey strewn with pitfalls
Medhi Benatia arrived unofficially at OM as sports advisor in November 2023, before being officially appointed sports director in January 2025. He first marked his time in the Marseille club with some “good moves” on the transfer market.
His management of the altercation between Jonathan Rowe and Adrien Rabiot, at the start of the season, led to the departure of the latter. Without doubt one of his biggest mistakes, with the arrival of Habib Beye as coach, of which he is also at the origin.
