All good things come to an end. In a press release published this Monday, Real Madrid announced the departure of Dani Carvajal at the end of the season. The two parties part ways by mutual agreement, after 23 seasons spent with the club, 450 matches played at professional level, and 27 titles won.
“Real Madrid would like to express its gratitude and affection to one of the greatest legends of our club and world football. » In fact, the Spanish full-back is “one of only five players in the history of football to have won six European Cups”as recalled in the farewell message from Casa Blanca.
“Dani Carvajal is a legend and a symbol of Real Madrid and its training centerrecalls the president of the team, Florentino Perez. His image alongside our dear and unforgettable Alfredo Di Stéfano, laying the first stone of the City of Real Madrid, will remain forever engraved in the hearts of all madridistas and in the history of our club. Carvajal has always embodied the values of Real Madrid. This club is and always will be his home. »
A departure on bad terms?
The departure of Dani Carvajal comes at the end of a very difficult season at Real Madrid. The usual captain was injured several times, and was relegated to the bench numerous times – even when he was physically fit – in favor of Trent Alexander-Arnold. He will have played only 22 matches this season, for a low total of 1,001 minutes of play. Enough to cause tensions with his coach Alvaro Arbeloa.
A tribute will be paid to him at the Santiago Bernabeu during the Merengue’s last match of the season, scheduled for this Saturday against Athletic Bilbao.
