A major page in the history of Atlético de Madrid turned this Sunday. Antoine Griezmann played his last home match in Madrid colors during the La Liga match against Girona, before his announced departure to Orlando City in Major League Soccer (MLS).
In an atmosphere charged with emotion at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, the French international received a vibrant tribute from the Colchoneros supporters, between songs, tifos and messages of thanks. Accompanied by his children as he entered the field, “Grizou” experienced a particularly symbolic evening.
Decisive for his last at home
For the occasion, Diego Simeone entrusted him with the captain’s armband. And the Frenchman was quick to respond. From the 21st minute, the former French international served Ademola Lookman perfectly with a cross from the right side, allowing his teammate to open the scoring before a collective celebration around the Madrid number 7. Griezmann played the entire match and even created several chances to score in his last home game.
In ten seasons, from 2014 to 2019 then from 2023 to 2026, after his time at FC Barcelonz, Antoine Griezmann established himself as one of the club’s greatest legends. Double champion of Spain, winner of the Europa League and finalist of the Champions League, the native of Mâcon has above all become the top scorer in the history of Atlético with 212 goals.
