Stephan El Shaarawy will leave AS Roma at the end of his contract in the Italian capital. Arriving in 2014, leaving for the first time before returning in 2021, the 33-year-old striker ultimately did not obtain a contract extension. Author of more than 300 matches in the Giallorosso jersey, he is preparing to play his last match at the Olimpico, during the derby against Lazio.

In a message published on his social networks, the player wanted to greet the entire club: “I arrived here with dreams, ambitions and a great desire to prove myself. I leave with a full heart. Filled with memories, fights fought together, immense joys, but also difficult moments that made me grow, on and off the field. In this environment, I found genuine affection, sincere esteem and a sense of belonging that goes beyond football. I have always sought to honor this jersey in the most authentic way possible, by giving everything I have, every day, without ever sparing myself. We wrote important pages together, experiencing emotions that will remain indelible, like the victory of an international trophy which united us even more and which I will always carry within me.
Over time, the responsibilities grew and wearing the captain’s armband was more than just a role: it was a huge honor and one of the greatest marks of esteem I could have received. A privilege that I will always keep in my heart. Like all stories, this one had a beginning and is now coming to an end. It was a special season, partly difficult, but that’s part of football and that doesn’t change who I am and what I’ve always given. The derby will be my last home match at the Olimpico. And there is no better match than this one to implement everything I have always looked for in this sport: commitment, respect and dedication for this jersey, but above all my gratitude. »
