Didier Deschamps’ list for the 2026 World Cup is already generating many reactions.

The Blues are now settled. This Thursday evening, Didier Deschamps unveiled the list of 26 players selected to play in the 23rd edition of the World Cup in North America, the first organized with 48 nations. Less than a month before the tournament, the coach has not shaken up his hierarchy, notably leaving Corentin Tolisso at the dock.

Absent since Euro 2021, the Olympique Lyonnais midfielder could nevertheless hope for a return given his very good season. Present in Generation After on
RMCMaxime Chanot felt that this absence resembled
“almost an injustice”.

“Ligue 1 is not really popular with Deschamps, we already knew that. Tolisso, I found him very efficient this season. Given OL’s situation, he was the one who carried Lyon on his shoulders for several months, sometimes in a role that wasn’t even his.”explained the former defender.

For his part, Corentin Tolisso admitted his disappointment after having
“all done” to participate in the World Cup. A feeling shared by Maxime Chanot, who recalled the statistics of the 2018 world champion: “He scored 11 goals in 29 Ligue 1 games, which is remarkable in a team that was going through a complicated period. He had an exceptional season and has an incredible mentality. »

“Corentin Tolisso would have deserved to be there”

Faced with criticism, Didier Deschamps himself praised the season of the former Bavarian, evoking “a very, very good club season”. The coach, however, explained his choice by tactical considerations and the balance of his group. “He projects more as a high point, or even as a center forward. He is less accustomed to a pivotal role than other players. And then, there are already five indisputable environments in a system with two recuperators”detailed the French technician.

Before concluding: “If there had been six, there would have been one more possibility. Corentin Tolisso would have deserved to be there”. Didier Deschamps also rejected the idea that playing in Ligue 1 would constitute a disadvantage in his choices.
