The end of the season is definitely very painful for Liverpool and its supporters. While they remained on a defeat and a draw in the Premier League, Arne Slot’s men were outclassed this Friday during their trip to Aston Villa (4-2, 37th day).
The Liverpool offensive team once again showed its limits and if Liverpool still found the net twice, it was each time thanks to its central defender, Virgil van Dijk (52nd and 90th+2). On the Villans side, Ollie Watkins also stood out with a double (57th and 73rd).
The opener was signed by Morgan Rogers (42nd). After an assist from Lucas Digne, just called up by Didier Deschamps to participate in the 2026 World Cup with the France team, the English midfielder fired a right cross missile which hit the mark.
Liverpool can worry
The last goal for the locals was the work of John McGinn, on a pass from the man of the evening, Ollie Watkins (89th). In the provisional ranking, Liverpool will still retain their place in the Champions League next year. Just behind him at four points, Bournemouth will host Manchester City on May 19 (the Cityzens play the FA Cup final on Saturday against Chelsea). If successful, he could come back to within one point of the Reds before the final day.
As for Aston Villa, the operation is excellent since it takes three points ahead of its victim of the evening and returns to success after two defeats and a draw.
