Didier Deschamps did not avoid any subject during the press conference following the announcement of his list for the 2026 World Cup.

The Blues coach, Didier Deschamps, took the time to answer numerous questions from the media this Thursday evening after announcing on TF1 his list of 26 players called up for the World Cup in the United States this summer (from June 11 to July 19). And the person concerned did not touch upon the mention of the controversial subjects of the moment.

This is particularly the case with the affair which is making a lot of noise in Italy these days, and these numerous footballers identified in sulphurous evenings with prostitutes, or even drugs. One of the most recently published videos – but dating from 2020 – notably featuring Théo Hernandez, then AC Milan player.

It’s old, the video is from 2020, so I’m not going to dwell on itsays Didier Deschamps about his defender now playing in Saudi Arabia. It hasn’t been two or three months, although it may have surprised some people. It’s his private life. Other videos on other players could come out too, no one is 100% exemplary, even if we have to make sure to be. Théo could have been filmed without his knowledge, I don’t know if the person who released it blames him or not but today he is calm and for me, that’s already a long way away… »

“They know very well that there are sensitive subjects”

Another recent debate, Kylian Mbappé’s position against the National Rally (RN) in an interview given to Vanity Fair. Some accuse him of thus contributing to the division of the country. “ When he speaks on the pitch, that’s where he’s very goodestimates the Bayonne technician. I’m not going to judge the players. There is a freedom of expression that is valid for you and for my players. I’m not going to tell them not to talk. »

They know very well that there are sensitive subjects, they are citizens like any otheradds Didier Deschamps.
If they don’t speak, we wonder why. And if they talk, we wonder why… Is it good or not? It’s not for me to say. What interests me is the footballer he is. Personally, I don’t speak on these subjects but I’m not saying that you have to do like me. Everyone has their own freedom. »
