After celebrating their La Liga title by beating Real Madrid on Sunday evening, Barça had another meeting this evening. A duel against Alavés which counted as butter for the Blaugranas, but which was decisive for the Basques – relegated at kick-off – in this race to maintain. Hansi Flick logically rotated, with players like Szczęsny, the young Alvaro Cortés, Marc Casado or Roony Bardghji starting, and the Catalans lost 1-0.
The Barcelonans, logically a little nonchalant and less intense than usual, were caught cold just before the break, with a goal from Diabaté, who got the better of the defense to beat, at point blank range, the Barcelona goalkeeper (1-0, 45th). The score did not change again after a fairly calm second period. No consequences for Barça, who are however giving up on a possible 100-point Liga. For its part, Alavés completed a superb operation in the La Liga standings, also taking advantage of Mallorca’s defeat at Getafe (3-1) to climb up to fifteenth place.
