“I am happy to have three goalkeepers of this level”. Asked numerous times about Matvey Safonov’s takeover in recent months, Luis Enrique continued to praise the merits of his three goalkeepers. Sunday evening, against Brest, it was Renato Marin’s turn to start. Already starting against Lorient, the young Italian-Brazilian last bulwark took advantage of the large turnover made by his coach and the injury to Lucas Chevalier to start this match on the 33rd day. And the least we can say is that the ex-AS Roma player was able to hold his own.

2 decisive saves and a promising clean-sheat

Usually number 3 in the position, the native of São Paulo took the opportunity to send a clear message: regardless of the fierce competition within the Parisian club, he is also ready to defend his chances. In a first act largely dominated by the European champions, Marin also shone. On the rare Brest forays, the 1m90 right-hander did not tremble: first by courageously coming out against Doumbia (23rd) before magnificently interposing on Le Guen’s recovery (29th).

Author of a new decisive save against Dina Ebimbe by coming out perfectly at the feet of the Brest winger (33rd), the 19-year-old goalkeeper finally avoided the worst for the Parisians, a little too much in control and lacking in offensive success despite several attempts (11 shots to 2 after 45 minutes). Upon returning from the locker room, the appearance of this match has not changed, quite the contrary. Paris pushed, Paris missed and Brest was content to defend well. For his part, Marin experienced this (sad) spectacle from the front row without ever needing to work, except on this aerial exit to repel the danger (77th).

Luis Enrique liked

We finally had to wait for a flash from Désiré Doué to allow the Parisians to overcome the Finistère club. A sluggish victory acquired thanks to the genius of the Ile-de-France Golden Boy but also thanks to the very good performance of Renato Marin, author of a last perfect save on a long shot from Magnetti (83rd). Questioned at the Ligue 1+ microphone after the meeting, the man who sees his contract run until June 2030 finally expressed his immense happiness. “Thank you so much. I thank the supporters. I have a lot of emotions. They are incredible. I think goalkeeper is not an easy position. I had to stay focused. I was able to make a few stops to help. I am an aggressive goalkeeper. I like to attack attackers. I’m not afraid. You have to be crazy to be a goalkeeper”noted the person concerned.

Before looking ahead to the next meeting against the Sang et Or: “It’s another final against Lens. We are not yet champions. You have to be patient and win everything”. Asked, in turn, about the performance of his colt, Luis Enrique also did not fail to highlight the qualities of the Parisian number 89: “Renato Marin made some very high-level saves. He is very young. He can still progress. He was courageous. He did a very good job. I want the players to be ready and that’s what we did with Renato.”. Strong words which should logically delight the main person concerned and above all portend a bright future in the French capital…
