In search of reinforcements in the cages, Saint-Étienne is studying the possibility of a goalkeeper who is very popular on the European market.

AS Saint-Étienne saw their direct promotion to Ligue 2 disappear on the final day. Before this outcome, the Greens no longer had their destiny in hand and had to both win against Amiens and hope for a misstep at Le Mans. Despite a great success (5-0) at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, Le Mans’ victory in Bastia (0-2) relegated the Stéphanois to 3rd place, awaiting official confirmation.

Deprived of this end of the season on the field due to an injury, Gautier Larsonneur was unable to accompany his team in the final sprint. Hoped for the play-offs, the 29-year-old goalkeeper, under contract until 2028, knows however that his future in Forez is now strongly called into question.

With this reconstruction in mind, Kilmer Sports is already considering a change in the cages. The idea would be to introduce increased competition, or even to completely review the hierarchy of goalkeepers. According to the Daily Mailthe Saint-Etienne leaders would thus be interested in Nikolas Polster, young goalkeeper for Wolfsberger AC.

A coveted goalkeeper

At 23, the Austrian seduces with a modern profile, sometimes compared to that of Manuel Neuer. Author of 9 clean sheets in 33 matches in all competitions this season, he stands out as a serious prospect for strengthening the Saint-Etienne squad. With his 1m89 height, he ticks several criteria sought by the club.

But the file promises to be competitive. Wolverhampton and Celtic FC are also said to be in the running. Under contract until 2027 and estimated at around two million euros, Nikolas Polster will not be easy to attract to Forez.
