Niklas Süle has made his retirement official! Recently guest on the podcast Spielmacherthe German defender confided that he will hang up his boots at the end of the summer with Dortmund (2nd). Indeed, this decision, which he had taken several months ago, really became necessary after his knee injury against Hoffenheim. “How I felt when our doctor did the test in Hoffenheim… the physio looked at me and shook his head, I was in the shower and cried for ten minutes”indicated the BVB defender, before continuing. “It was 1000% clear that it was over. I couldn’t imagine anything worse than waiting impatiently.”. Arriving at Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022, after his time at Bayern Munich, Süle will have played 109 matches in the yellow and black colors and will have very good memories.

“What I experienced in my first year, when we almost became champions, the evening at the hotel, the way to the stadium. What I felt there, I more or less felt it before my first professional match, nervousness, excitement. I don’t know if I’ll ever feel like that again in my life, with this adrenaline.”explained the 30-year-old, very moved. Besides, saying goodbye will probably be tricky. “I will miss this period greatly. I felt so good here. From the first day, I understood what people were like in Dortmund. My children go to kindergarten here. It’s already difficult for us to leave”.
