Here is a shock at the end of the season which was decisive for Manchester United, eager to validate their return to the Champions League by winning against Liverpool, also not yet qualified to return to the C1. But it was the Red Devils who got off to the best start in this meeting, with a quick opening score on a restart from Cunha (1-0, 6th). And it only took a few minutes for Sesko to make the break on a contentious action, where the Mancunian striker would have lightly touched the ball with his hand, before scoring (2-0, 14th). In total control, Carrick’s men nevertheless offered a gift to Szoboszlai, after a missed pass from Diallo which benefited the Hungarian attacker to reduce the score (2-1, 46th).

Before goalkeeper Lammens completely missed his clearance and again offered the equalizer to Gakpo who could score in the empty goal (2-2, 56th). Everything had to be done again for the Red Devils, but a good action allowed Mainoo to get back in front of the surface and give his team the advantage again, at the best of times (3-2, 80th). MU held on and therefore validated its place in the Champions League. On the other hand, Liverpool risks finishing fifth and is not yet guaranteed to qualify for C1 before hosting Chelsea.
