Beaten in Rodez this Saturday during the 33rd day of Ligue 2, Saint-Etienne saw direct promotion to Ligue 1 slip away. This for the benefit of Le Mans.

Weighted down by three setbacks, ASSE is losing sight of its objective of promotion to Ligue 1. This Saturday during the 33e and penultimate round of Ligue 2, the Greens suffered the law of Rodez (2-1), thus confined to third place in the ranking, two lengths from Le Mans.

At the same time, the Sarthois also missed the mark, forced into a draw by Reims (1-1) when a success would have allowed them to lock second position behind an implacable Trojan champion, executioner today of Laval (4-0).

Amiens officially relegated

With a two-point lead over the Stéphanois and the Audoniens of Red Star, who lost Amiens (1-3) and are fourth in the hierarchy, the Manceaux will have their work cut out for them in Bastia next week. Especially since the Corsicans can still hold on to the position of barrier for the time being occupied by Laval. Unlike Amiens officially relegated to Ligue 3.

In the light of the evening’s results, Grenoble, Boulogne, Clermont and Nancy were saved before the last day. In the race for the elite, however, it is over for Montpellier, surprised by opportunistic Clermontois (1-2). Annecy (7e) and Reims (6e) for their part keep the promotion play-offs in their sights with respectively three and two units behind the Ruthenian sensation.
