After a long journey marked by 18 months of suspension for doping, Paul Pogba returned to the field last summer by joining AS Monaco. In this reconstruction phase, the French midfielder was mainly looking to accumulate playing time to try to get back on track for the World Cup organized in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Hampered by several injuries, the 2018 world champion however failed to continue in the Monegasque jersey. The World Cup objective has thus become significantly further away, but the former Juventus player now wants to concentrate on a lasting return to form with Monaco and prepare for next season. A dynamic that could start this Saturday (7 p.m.), with a possible start against Metz.
Three years later, he could therefore find a starting place at kick-off. A symbolic milestone for the player born in Lagny-sur-Marne, who spoke about his future in an interview with Adil Rami for League 1+. Buoyed by the reception from the public at each of his appearances in Ligue 1, he refuses to consider a premature end.
“I can’t stop there”
“Honestly, there were times when I said to myself, ‘go ahead, it’s okay, it’s getting me drunk’. I do everything, I do everything, I’m here, I come… You see, it doesn’t stop, it continues. I was like: ‘what more do I have to do to avoid all this?’ In fact, it’s time and patience”said Pogba to his former teammate in the selection.
“It’s really patience, continuing, not giving up. I was lucky to have people around me, my family, my close friends who were like ‘go ahead, what are you telling me?’. When I see messages, whether on the networks, when I arrive in the stadiums, that there is applause, waaah, I can’t stop there. I want to give this love and pleasure back to people”he concluded.
