A “Clasico” was on the program for the 17th day of the Moroccan championship, the Botola Pro, and AS FAR defeated Raja Casablanca (2-1), Thursday evening in its Prince Moulay Abdellah stadium, in Rabat. Thanks to goals from Abdelfettah Hadraf (52nd) and Reda Slim (66th), the Military joined the Rajaouis in 2nd place in the ranking, with two points less than the leader, the MAS, a team from Fez.
Morocco is, however, in shock after the serious excesses that occurred in the stands, in the magnificent 69,500-seat den which hosted all of the selection’s matches during the last African Cup of Nations, until the final against Senegal on January 18, with the famous pitch invasion by around a hundred Senegalese supporters.
Raja fans came in large numbers to Rabat (an hour’s drive) and violence broke out around the visitors’ park. Local fans then approached the opposing kop in order to fight and the response from Raja supporters was very violent, some people being armed with iron bars. The incidents occurred near the press box and the journalists’ TVs were expensive.
