Who to succeed Alvaro Arbeloa on the Real Madrid bench? As a season without a trophy approaches, with an eleven-point deficit behind FC Barcelona in La Liga, the White House already seems focused on a change of coach this summer.
According to several foreign media, JosĂ© Mourinho appears to be the big favorite on Florentino PĂ©rez’s shortlist. Other prestigious profiles are also circulating, such as JĂĽrgen Klopp, Mauricio Pochettino and Didier Deschamps. But in Spain, a discordant voice is heard, pleading for a different option: the current coach of Paris Saint-Germain.
The proposal from the Spanish press
In the show La Tribu, broadcast by Marca, journalist Emilio Contreras asks: “Isn’t Real Madrid always looking for the best at the moment? Why doesn’t he think about a coach like Luis Enrique? He should look for the best coach, not the one who was part of his history many years ago, and who is no longer among the best in the world today..
A hypothesis however deemed unrealistic by MarĂa JosĂ© Hostalrich, cited by Real-France. According to her, neither Luis Enrique nor Pep Guardiola would join the Madrid club: “Luis Enrique would never come to Real, nor Guardiola. The dressing room is in the hands of the players and they need someone to impose their authority. Mourinho is the only one to whom the president could delegate to restore order in the locker room. (…) The great coaches have seen that at Real Madrid, a coach is sometimes prevented from working and that there are internal influences. Some coaches, even if they get an offer, won’t come.”
