In addition to the transfer window, the summer soap opera for Real Madrid will be to know who will be the great successor to Alvaro Arbeloa. If the former right-back is not yet officially sentenced, the Madrid media are not giving him any chance and the Merengue club has already drawn up a short list to succeed him next summer after this more than complicated season in which the club is almost condemned to a blank season. And many names appear in the Spanish newspapers, with Didier Deschamps, Mauricio Pochettino, Jürgen Klopp, Zinedine Zidane and José Mourinho.

And to choose his new strong man, President Florentino Pérez now wants to be fully involved in the choice of the future coach and wishes to relaunch a sporting project that is losing momentum. The support from his close circle will still be there, but will be limited this year and the boss of Casa Blanca will make the final decision. According to The Athletichis favorite would be José Mourinho, already with the club between 2010 and 2013 with success, notably a title of champion of Spain, crossing the bar of 100 points taken.

José Mourinho is not unanimous internally

A return from Mourinho, however, divides internally. Although he would bring experience, visibility and ambition, his previous stint had been marked by tensions, notably with Iker Casillas, and by a sometimes controversial image. This season, José Mourinho has attracted strong criticism from the Madrid media for his comments after Real Madrid striker Vinicius Junior claimed to have been the victim of racist insults from Gianluca Prestianni, his Benfica player.

But Florentino Perez wants to see José Mourinho again, even if this is not in the opinion of everyone internally. Other avenues have been mentioned, but the club’s tendency to recall old faces could work in favor of the Portuguese technician, who has a clause of around 3 million euros in his contract with Benfica, allowing either party to terminate the contract up to 10 days after the last match of this season. A track that takes credibility, while Kylian Mbappé recently liked a publication claiming that Mourinho could return to Real Madrid.
