Olympique de Marseille is preparing to experience a summer of major transition. Between new visual identity, change of presidency with the arrival of Stéphane Richard to replace Pablo Longoria, and the expected appointment of a sports director, the Marseille club is launching an in-depth reorganization.
However, there remains a priority file: the succession of Mehdi Benatia, whose departure at the end of the season is now confirmed. “Mehdi was ready to leave early. I asked him to come so we could talk and reconsider his choice. He agreed to do it but told me he was stopping at the end of the season. I told him okay. I can therefore confirm that he will leave at the end of the season”explained Frank McCourt.
One less option for OM
Olympique de Marseille must now accelerate the choice of its future sports director. In recent weeks, several profiles have been studied internally, notably that of Grégory Lorenzi. But the current sports director of Stade Brestois will ultimately take over the management of Nice if the Gym maintains its position.
According to Nice-Morningproximity to his region of origin weighed in his decision. With three days remaining, Nice is five points ahead of AJ Auxerre, current play-off team, whom it will face on the 33rd day. On the Marseille side, this avenue therefore seems to be closing, pushing leaders to explore other options. The names of Cristiano Giuntoli and Paul Mitchell are also circulating to take over.
