OM, something never seen before in 66 years

OM’s season is still more catastrophic with a new poor performance, Sunday evening at the Vélodrome, when OGC Nice came (1-1). Geronimo Rulli is expensive.

“We have to win this match, we stop talking during the week, we stop talking now. It’s…I have to be careful what I say”. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was obviously disgusted after OM’s draw against OGC Nice, Sunday evening at the Stade Vélodrome (1-1). The Danish midfielder found the fault on the hour mark for the team led by Habib Beye (66th), with a header from a cross from Tochukwu Nnadi, but a mistake from the young Tadjidine Mmadi gave Elye Wahi the opportunity to equalize from the penalty spot a short distance from added time (88th), the Gym striker performing a Panenka against his former club!

After three defeats in four matches, the Phocéens suffered a new blow in the race for qualification in the Champions League, now finding themselves four points behind OL and Losc, 3rd and 4th in the standings, with Stade Rennais 5th with three more units. OM will have to refuel against FC Nantes and Le Havre before welcoming the Rouge et Noir for a likely decisive meeting for Europe…

Rulli, OM’s worst record since 1960

Abandoned by his defenders, like in Lorient last week (2-0) but also since the start of the season (and even since his arrival at Canebière), Geronimo Rulli is diving ever deeper in terms of stats. The Argentinian goalkeeper scores 13 clean sheets in 71 matches in all competitions, which gives 18% of matches without conceding a goal, the lowest ratio of Marseille goalkeepers since 1960!

At the time, Pierre Peri was the goalkeeper for the Marseille club during relegation at the end of the 1958-1959 season… OM finished 20th and last in the French D1, with 53 goals conceded.
