In an interview with Wayne Rooney on his TV show BBCBruno Fernandes returned to the current dynamic of Manchester United and the effects of the arrival of Michael Carrick on the bench. The captain of the Red Devils particularly insisted on the general surprise within the locker room regarding the club’s ranking in the Premier League. “When Michael arrived, we would never have imagined that at this point in the season we would be third”he confided, highlighting the rapid progress of the team despite an unstable initial context. The Portuguese recalls that the club was still in 6th place before the change of coach.

Beyond the ranking, Fernandes also highlighted the quality of the work carried out internally by Carrick, especially in match preparation and group management. “The way he prepared for meetings and spoke to us showed that he was more than just an assistant, he was ready for a higher step”explained the midfielder. Words which illustrate Carrick’s immediate impact on a squad which, according to Fernandes, was able to quickly adapt to put itself back in the race for the Champions League.
