Well before the putsch launched against her in February 2023 by Wendie Renard, Marie-Antoinette and Kadidiatou Diani as well as Perle Morroni, Corinne Diacre was already at the center of some turmoil within the French women’s football team. The management of the woman who was then coach of the Blues was the subject of dispute by several players. Amandine Henry was one of them.
In November 2020, a few days after her non-selection by Corinne Diacre for the October gathering, the one who was then captain of the Bleues gave a vitriolic interview to Canal+. An interview in which she sharply attacked the choices of her coach. As a result, she was excluded from the French team for thirty-four months.
Time passed and Amandine Henry continued her club career before returning to the national team, participating in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and finally retiring internationally with 109 caps and 14 goals on the clock. Now a player for the Mexican club Deportiva Toluca, Amandine Henry has agreed to very briefly return to her 2020 speech.
Amandine Henry recounts her rant against Corinne Deacon
She did so as part of an interview published this Thursday by L’Équipe.
“I was in an impossible situation. Either I kept silent and the players would have criticized me for not taking my responsibilities as captain, or I spoke and the consequences for me were inevitable. »
And to conclude on the subject with a certain firmness. “ I took my responsibilities in giving this interview but at a certain point, stop, that’s it, it’s over. After my statements, if I had a bad match, they said that I had better train more instead of bringing her back. I was tired of it all. (…) The French team and I are a toxic love. We love each other but it doesn’t work. There was no trophy, I experienced more hardships than anything else, it’s an impossible love. »
