The 34th day of the Premier League kicked off with the match between Brighton (9th) and Chelsea (6th). Faced with a sick Blues, the Seagulls had a good card to play. If successful, Roberto De Zerbi’s former team could indeed overtake the Londoners in the standings.

A scenario of which Fabian Hürzeler’s players were perfectly aware. The Blues’ nightmare began in the third minute with Kadıoğlu’s opening goal. Trailing at the break, Chelsea took on water shortly before the hour mark when Hinshelwood scored the goal of the break, before the coup de grace signed by Welbeck in added time (90th). Thanks to this 3-0 success, Brighton climbs to 6th place and passes Chelsea (7th), beaten for the fifth time in a row in the league. The Blues remain 7 points from first qualifying place for the Champions League. A gap which can increase to 10 points if Liverpool win against Crystal Palace.
