“Romelu decided to stay in Belgium to train and recover from his injury. We are not happy, because we would have liked to speak with him here in Naples. He should come back next week and he knows there will be consequences.. This is what Giovanni Manna, sporting director of Napoli, recently said. A burst of pressure which obviously did not make the Belgian striker shudder. Expected in Naples at the start of the week, the 32-year-old striker finally decided to postpone his return to Italy once again.

Yes, but now, if the date of April 20 is now mentioned and a one-on-one meeting with his coach Antonio Conte is already scheduled, the sanction risks quite simply marking the end of the adventure between Big Rom and his club. Indeed, according to the latest information from the newspaper La RepubblicaLukaku should no longer return to the field with the Neapolitan team, who have therefore decided to do without his services until the end of the season.

An inevitable divorce

Terrible news for the player, at a time when Naples is in 2nd place in Serie A, but also for the Belgian selection. Indeed, this decision could have a major impact on the future course of the Red Devils, who would then begin the 2026 World Cup with Lukaku severely lacking pace. After only playing 64 minutes since his return from injury in January, the 1m91 left-hander is on the verge of finding himself permanently sidelined.

A scenario which should, moreover, push him to reconsider his future as he approaches the last year of his contract. For its part, Naples will logically be keen to recover part of the 30 million euros it paid in August 2024 to Chelsea. As a reminder, since his arrival at the Partenopei, the Belgian international (124 caps, 89 goals) has scored 15 goals and delivered 11 goals in 45 matches in all competitions. To be continued…
