Gian Piero Gasperini amazed more than one this Friday at a press conference. On the eve of a match between AS Roma and Atalanta loaded with symbolism for the Giallorosso coach, the latter had to face questions from the Italian media on the match, but also on his future and his quarrel with the advisor of the Roman club, Claudio Ranieri. Faced with these questions, Gasperini took care to avoid all sensitive subjects, but when it came time to talk about his memories at Atalanta, the 68-year-old technician broke down.
“If I spent almost 8 years in Genoa and 9 in Bergamo, it’s not that I’m such a bad person. At Atalanta, it wasn’t just young people or kids. But a group of experienced players, which was then expanded, integrated, modified. But it wasn’t just young people. It was something extraordinary, not only thanks to me, but also thanks to the club. At a certain moment, this club, very capable of working in harmony with the coach… At a certain moment, this harmony, a little because the club had changed, a little because the father (Percassi, editor’s note), to whom I was certainly more attached, was no longer there…”he said in tears, before getting up and suddenly leaving the press conference room.
