Three months after the final of the African Cup of Nations between Senegal and Morocco, an important decision was taken concerning one of the major players in the match.

Three months after the final whistle of the match, we are still awaiting the final verdict of this African Cup of Nations final. On the field, Senegal won (1-0 after), thanks to a goal from Pape Gueye. But in March, Morocco was declared the winner following the incidents that marred the game, and the matter is now in the hands of the CAS.

A few minutes from the end of regulation time, a penalty whistled for a foul on Brahim Diaz ignited the powder. The Senegalese left the field before returning, to see Edouard Mendy stop the Real Madrid player’s attempt.

Three months after this meeting, therefore, an important decision was taken regarding the man who whistled this penalty (after intervention by the VAR), Jean-Jacques Ndala. The Congolese referee was simply not selected to officiate at the next World Cup.

Sanction for the Senegal-Morocco referee?

Mr. Ndala’s name does not appear among the seven Africans chosen by Fifa for its competition. This clearly looks like a big disavowal for one of the protagonists of the CAN final, not to say a sanction.

The seven African referees selected for the World Cup:
Omar Abdulkadir Artan (Somalia)
Pierre Atcho (Gabon)
Dahane Beida (Mauritania)
Mustapha Ghorbal (Algeria)
Jalal Jayed (Morocco)
Amin Omar (Egypt)
Abongile Tom (South Africa)
