Drama in the North, the mourning Lille-Lens derby

The Northern derby, played on Saturday evening between Lille and Lens, was overshadowed by tragedy.

The Northern derby was in mourning on Saturday evening. Lille hosted Lens for the 28th day of Ligue 1 and won 3-0 against the Sang et Or, but the meeting was overshadowed by a tragedy.

A few hours before kick-off at the Decathlon Arena, a 59-year-old Lensois supporter, Yves, suffered a cardiac arrest while going to the stadium by bus with other fans. Despite rapid treatment and transport to hospital, the man did not survive.

During the night, RC Lens confirmed the terrible news. “Racing learned with deep sadness of the death of Yves, 59, victim of a cardiac arrest in one of the buses going to the Decathlon Arena this Saturday. Bereaved, RC Lens is turned towards the loved ones of this loyal supporter, to whom it extends its most sincere condolences”communicated the club.

A next tribute to Bollaert

For its part, Lille expressed its solidarity through its president Olivier Létang. “LOSC has learned of the tragic death of a Lensois supporter following a cardiac arrest, during the bus trip to the Decathlon Arena Stade Pierre Mauroy. The club, through its President, Olivier Létang, presents its sincere condolences to the loved ones and the family of the victim.it is notified.

This disappearance cast a shadow over what was to be a great football celebration. RC Lens has announced that a tribute will be paid to Yves during the next home meeting at Bollaert-Delelis, to pay tribute to the memory of this loyal supporter.
