Malang Sarr does not mince his words. In an interview given to Kampo on YouTubethe 27-year-old Lensois defender looked back on his superb season with the Sang et Or, in particular his adaptation abroad, his handling of criticism, but also other juicy anecdotes about his career. Furthermore, he did not fail to raise a somewhat confusing situation which had made him distraught at the time. Indeed, during his whirlwind stint at Chelsea (2021-2022), the former Nice player was “humiliated” by his coach Mauricio Pochettino – who therefore lied to the press – declaring that he did not know who he was. As a reminder, he was indeed in the squad of the Londoners and had spoken to him.
“In 2019, he brought my agent to London to convince me to sign for Tottenham. No, I go even further. When I come back from my loan to Monaco, I’m in rehabilitation all summer at Chelsea, it’s just me and the physios, he signs, visits the club, and comes to see me. He calls his assistant, he says “look who’s here, we tried to bring him to Tottenham, now we find ourselves working together here”. He gave me a hug and said: “oh, you’re already on the mat, it’s been a week since your operation, did it go well?”. It’s impossible that he doesn’t know me.”. Before adding a comment, clearly highlighting the frustration on his side. “I want to break everything right then and there when he says that. He did it on purpose. I obviously wanted him, but I want him more”he concluded during the new episode, already online on YouTube.
