Since January 2025, Paulo Fonseca has been in the heyday of OL. Despite a mixed first half-season, the Portuguese coach has got everyone back on track this season. With fewer resources and less talent, the 52-year-old coach manages to bring out the best in his squad and allows Les Gones to be currently third in Ligue 1. An observation which stands out with his last failed adventure with AC Milan. Asked by The Athletic regarding this wasted experience, Fonseca expressed his great regrets:
“I needed more time. Milan is an incredible club and I really enjoyed it. I’m really sorry I didn’t have time — their proposal was to change the game (to a more expansive style). Changing something they’ve had for so many years is not easy; it takes time, especially in Italy, where it is even more difficult, almost impossible. We had some incredible games, playing really good football. We needed to be more consistent, that’s true, but changing something in Italy is really difficult.”
