We knew the running gag “Goal for Laval” and “Penalty for Lyon”. Here is also “change of coach at FC Nantes”, which is not bad at all. After a series of eight defeats in 10 days of the championship, here is already the end of the Ahmed Kantari era, who found a way to do almost worse than the legendary Raymond Domenech: 0.6 points per match for “AK”, 0.57 at the time for the former coach of the Blues.
Here is a third coach for the Canaries this season, since Kantari was appointed last December to succeed Luis Castro (who has since rebounded well with Levante). And while the names of Antoine Kombouaré, Pierre Aristouy and Michel Der Zakarian were released in the press, the Nantes leaders opted for another of their exes: Vahid Halilhodzic, 73, who will have to play firefighter on duty for a team in distress (17th in the ranking).
For those looking for the statistics, here it is: counting temporary workers and “doubles”, “Coach Vahid” will become the 25th coach of the Waldemar Kita era, which began in 2007 with Michel Der Zakarian on the bench. Note that the Bosnian had been the 15th of the name, between October 2018 and August 2019. This is the third time that the Nantes president has recalled one of his former coaches, after Der Zakarian and Kombouaré, in fact.
Uth change for FC Nantes
Coincidentally with the calendar, L’Equipe published this Tuesday Théo Boyer’s documentary dedicated to Raynald Denoueix, iconic coach of FC Nantes. In the subject, we see an infographic showing the number of coaches and the club’s record before the ousting of Denoueix in December 2001, a few months after the last championship title, and the same thing afterwards.
The difference is edifying, and as the author of the documentary noted, the infographic is already obsolete just seconds after its publication. And given how things are going, the number of coaches is more likely to change in the months to come than the number of titles.
