Michael Ballack, former captain of Bayern Munich and the Maanschaft, keeps within him the pain of the loss of his son Emilio, who died in a quad accident in August 2021 at the age of 18. In a very moving interview for Sky Sport Germanythe ex-midfielder confided: “it’s difficult. Very difficult. We cannot imagine what a person going through such an ordeal goes through, we cannot even describe it in words. I have a lot of trouble talking about him. It upsets me too much”.
To cope with everyday life, Ballack explains that he relies on his family and his work: “how do we manage to hold on? Thanks to what motivates us, work, family, our other sons, to try to cope. I’ve done my best so far.”. Recognized for his exceptional career in Germany and England, Ballack remains today very marked by this tragedy.
