Great football glories like Radamel Falcao (“the imprint you left on each of us will remain forever”), David Silva (“big crack”), Fernando Morientes (“you embody the word professional, good life! ») or Santi Cazorla (“a phenomenon on and off the field, my friend”) celebrated the announcement of Oscar Trejo, the current captain of Rayo Vallecano, who will retire at the end of the season, at almost 38 years old. Luca Zidane also paid him a nice tribute.

An attacking midfielder trained at Boca Juniors, Trejo arrived in Spain young, to gain experience in Mallorca and Gijon, before playing four good seasons in Ligue 1 at Toulouse FC from 2013 to 2017 (136 matches, 14 goals). From his first at Rayo, the playmaker became the darling of the public by offering the Liga 2 champion title to the Vallecas club. Seven years later, he is the most capped foreign player in history.

“What a player, but above all, what a person, legend! »thus launched Luca Zidane, who played with Trejo at Rayo during the rise in 2021. The goalkeeper trained at Real Madrid, now an Algerian international, had experienced difficult first matches in La Liga to lose his starting place.

Le Rayo in Conference

Oscar Trejo also concludes his career with a European season. Rayo finished 8th in La Liga last year and survived the first phase of the Conference League for a round of 16 match against Samsunspor in the coming days. Strasbourg can only face the Spanish team in the semi-finals of the competition.

“I leave in peace, proud to have given everything and certain that this badge will forever be engraved in my life and that of my family. It’s not goodbye. It’s goodbye. Because Rayo Vallecano is not something you leave behind… it’s something you carry within you”he concludes poetically in an Instagram post.
