Real Madrid appear to be preparing for a third coaching change this summer, with Álvaro Arbeloa’s future in charge beyond the end of the season uncertain.

The big question is who could succeed him, given a lack of obvious candidates in the transfer market.

Real Madrid management harbors doubts about Arbeloa’s ability to lead the team in the long term, after conceding four defeats in thirteen games, as many as Xabi Alonso. Lately, convincing performances will be expected against Celta Vigo and Manchester City to reassure the London club, and Arbeloa also held a crisis meeting with his players this week.

Real Madrid in contact with Max Allegri – rumor

According to an article from CdS relayed by Marca, Real Madrid have contacted Massimiliano “Max” Allegri, the coach of AC Milan. The Madrid club have reportedly sounded out the Italian about the possibility of taking the reins of the team this summer. He is currently under contract with the Rossoneri until 2027, but his contract has a release clause.

Allegri was among the candidates considered by president Florentino Pérez to succeed Zinédine Zidane in 2021, but after his refusal to stay at Juventus, Real Madrid turned to Carlo Ancelotti.

Other alternatives to Allegri

It seems obvious that Real Madrid’s preferred choice would be former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp, but that means convincing him to come out of retirement. Another name that Real Madrid are said to have contacted in recent months is that of Unai Emery, the Aston Villa coach, who has restored the Premier League to its former glory after difficult spells at Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain. Allegri would be a somewhat unexpected choice, but he has coached major institutions before.
