FC Barcelona is considering recruiting a Ligue 1 star rather than Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford at FC Barcelona is a successful bet. Arriving in Catalan lands last summer, when he was not necessarily the Blaugrana’s number 1 option to strengthen the attack, the Englishman adapted very quickly to his new team and he quickly performed well. In an offensive joker role, he still benefits from significant playing time, and notably displays 9 goals and 9 assists in 29 matches between La Liga and the Champions League, including 17 as a starter.

The Three Lions striker is happy in Catalonia and wants his loan to become a permanent transfer. However, his case divides internally. Some high-ranking members of the club want to keep him and exercise his purchase option of 30 million euros, but other managers are a little less enthusiastic and are not completely convinced. At least, not to the point of dropping such a sum in times of crisis. Obviously, the club also has other alternatives… The name of Jan Virgili, formerly of Barça and currently performing well in Mallorca, has often come up in the press in recent weeks.

Barça has been following him for a long time

As indicated SportBarça is seriously thinking about Malick Fofana, the Belgian winger from Olympique Lyonnais, presented as a threat to Rashford’s place at Barça. On the sidelines since October due to an ankle injury, the 20-year-old has been followed for a very long time by the Barcelona recruitment unit. The media indicates that his price would be significantly similar to that of Rashford, around 30 million euros.

But obviously, Fofana is much younger and financially speaking, paying 30 million euros for him rather than Rashford seems a better choice. Business to follow therefore, even if we imagine that everything will also depend on the future president of the club, while the presidential elections will be held on March 15. If there is a change in management, things could completely change…
