Unprecedented for Bayern Munich
Bayern will face Atalanta Bergamo, a first in its history. Atlético de Madrid will face Tottenham. Bayer Leverkusen will try to create a surprise against Arsenal.
Barcelona and Liverpool set
Since it will not face PSG, Barça will cross swords with Newcastle, with a return match in Catalonia. For their part, Liverpool will have to be very wary of Galatasaray.
Chelsea for PSG!
Paris Saint-Germain did not have long to wait. The defending champion will face the team that beat them last summer in the Club World Cup final.
The Manchester City-Real Madrid clash!
Manchester City will face Real Madrid, with a return match in England.
Ivan Rakitic in charge of the draw
The former FC Barcelona player, winner of the Champions League with the Blaugrana, will be in charge of the draw.
It’s time!
The draw ceremony has just started, a few minutes late. Tension is rising within the various delegations sent to Nyon to represent the clubs qualified for these round of 16 of the Champions League.
And the other duels could be…
Atalanta Bergamo will face Arsenal or Bayern Munich. Same thing for Bayer Leverkusen. Surprise faller from Inter Milan, Bodo/Glimt will find either Manchester City or Sporting Portugal. After eliminating Juventus, Galatasaray will be entitled to Tottenham or Liverpool in the round of 16. Finally, Newcastle will cross swords with Chelsea or FC Barcelona.
Potential shocks
Real Madrid could find Manchester City, unless the draw designates Sporting Portugal as their opponent. Atlético de Madrid will face Liverpool or Tottenham.
Which opponent for PSG?
The situation is simple and already known since the end of the league phase for Paris Saint-Germain. Luis Enrique’s team knows that it will face either FC Barcelona or Chelsea FC.
