Dramatic twist in the Wissam Ben Yedder case. Sent in November to the Alpes-Maritimes criminal court for rape, attempted rape and sexual assault, the former French international should ultimately not be tried. His brother, Sabri, was also affected by the procedure.

But according to The Team This Thursday, February 26, the investigating chamber of the Aix-en-Provence Court of Appeal overturned the indictment order. She believes that there was no reason to take legal action against the former AS Monaco player.

Me Sophia Kerbaa, lawyer for the attacker, said “very happy for her client and very satisfied with the decision which corresponds to everything I defended”. “The court was convinced by my presentation, which was as much about the facts as it was about the law”she told the sports daily.

A case open in 2023

The alleged facts date back to the summer of 2023, when the player was still playing with the Principality club. The two brothers were accused of rape for alleged events that occurred in Beausoleil, a town bordering Monaco. According to the complainants, aged 19 and 20 at the time of the facts, they were invited to an apartment rented by the footballer, where non-consensual sexual relations were allegedly imposed.

Already sentenced in another case to two years in prison for sexual assault while drunk, Wissam Ben Yedder faced up to 20 years of criminal imprisonment in this case. The decision of the investigating chamber now reshuffles the judicial cards.
