FIFA has set up a special panel bringing together several major football figures committed to the fight against racism. Among them, the former French international and 2018 World Champion, Blaise Matuidi, who agreed to join this initiative to advance the fight within the authorities. In an interview for FIFA, the former PSG midfielder explained the reasons for his commitment and took stock of the current situation. He declared: “we take things even more seriously, and above all there are sanctions that are imposed directly. (…) There is a new era, we feel it. » Before adding: “we can see that there is still progress at this level. »
Matuidi also insists on the active role that players must now play in this fight. According to him, this panel allows us to go “at the heart of the problem” with concrete actions, but also to make the voice of footballers heard in decisions. “We made the game, but we are also the faces of football”he recalls, convinced that their influence can move the lines. Recognizing the symbolic significance of this initiative, he says he is proud to participate in this collective fight: “Together, we will be stronger”he concludes, convinced that football unity remains the best weapon against all forms of discrimination.
