Losc is finally emerging from the crisis! After four defeats and two draws in Ligue 1, as well as the setback at home against Red Star Belgrade (0-1), Thursday in the first leg of the Europa League, Bruno Genesio’s team took the three points on the field of Angers SCO (0-1), Sunday afternoon, during a game played behind closed doors due to flooding in the region.
Olivier Giroud scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot before half-time (45th + 2), transforming the award after a foul on the right side of the Mastiffs Tiago Santos. The former French international, now 39 years old, has been hard to see for many weeks. He hadn’t scored in nine league matches and a double against Paris FC on November 23, three months ago!
The current top scorer for the Blues enters the history of French football a little further by being one of the players aged 39 or over to score in Ligue 1. Giroud will perhaps have the opportunity to overtake Vitorino Hilton or Dante, scorers respectively at 39 and 40, if he plays for a second season in the North.
Losc threatens OM
Giroud’s performance at the Raymond Kopa Stadium is also rather encouraging since the Isérois could have been a decisive passer for Matias Fernandez-Pardo (12th). The Angevins proved more dangerous throughout the second half but fell on a solid Berke Özer in his goal.
With this success, Lille are completely relaunching themselves in the race for Europe since they still occupy 5th place but now three points behind OM, a 4th who is in terrible form. After their trip to Belgrade this week to hope to qualify for the round of 16, Losc will host FC Nantes, penultimate in the standings but winner this Sunday from Le Havre to La Beaujoire (2-0). The SCO is 12th.
