We knew Raheem Sterling’s future was surrounded by uncertainties at Chelsea, and the questions were finally answered. Through a laconic press release published this Wednesday, the London club announced by mutual agreement the departure of the 31-year-old England international (82 caps, 20 goals). Chelsea will therefore not recover any money from a potential transfer this winter, as the English press initially claimed.
“Raheem Sterling today left Chelsea Football Club by mutual consent, ending three and a half seasons with us, after signing in the summer of 2022 from Manchester City. We thank Raheem for his contribution as a Chelsea player and wish him good luck for the rest of his career
»we can read in the club press release.
Serie A or a new adventure in the Premier League?
Never used this season, both under the orders of Enzo Maresca and those of Liam Rosenior, the former Liverpool player is now free to sign up with the club he wishes. In recent weeks, the British press had mentioned an interest from Naples, a club used to recruiting from the Premier League recently (Lukaku, McTominay, De Bruyne, Höjlund, Gilmour, etc.).
The tracks leading to West Ham and Fulham had also become thicker, before being slowed down for financial reasons. His new status as a free player should now attract more suitors, even if Sterling remains in two very complicated seasons. Last year, the former Manchester City player did not score a single goal in 17 Premier League matches for Arsenal, where he was on loan.
