OM: an English club comes forward to recruit Angel Gomes

With the arrivals of Quinten Timber and Ethan Nwaneri, the Marseille midfield has never seemed so full. And for some, it’s bad news, or confirmation that their future could take a completely different turn by next Monday, February 2, the date the winter transfer window closes. This is the case of Angel Gomes, who arrived free from LOSC last summer.

A very good pick on the part of OM, it was said then, since the midfielder, capable of playing in a double pivot or a step higher under the attacker, had established himself as a solid L1 player and had even become an English international in 2024. Alas, despite a good start to the season, he paid the price for the recurring changes of Roberto De Zerbi, who struggles to find the right association in the middle, in particular to accompany the essential Højbjerg. A Vermeeren move, an O’Riley move, a Kondogbia move, another Nadir, and now Timber… The horizon seems blocked for Angel Gomes, who maintains a good rating on the market.

Wolverhampton moves in the transfer window

Medhi Benatia and Pablo Longoria know this, and they do not hesitate to reshape the squad during the season if the recruits have not given enough satisfaction. As early as December, OM management made it clear that it was not open to the player leaving. And according to our information, a first viable avenue has opened up, since Wolverhampton is interested in Angel Gomes. The English club is (poorly) engaged in the fight to remain in England (red lantern of the Premier League), and is necessarily active in the winter transfer window.

Wolves’ interest in Angel Gomes is notably linked to the potential departure of a former Ligue 1 player, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, followed very closely by Besiktas. Wolverhampton also sold Marshall Munetsi on loan to Paris FC during this transfer window, and therefore needs reinforcement in the midfield. Angel Gomes could be the one, if he approves of this destination. The last time he played in the Premier League was in January 2020, for Manchester United, before his departure for Lille.
