It was the big soap opera of this end of the winter transfer window. French international Jean-Philippe Mateta, currently at Crystal Palace, was on the verge of signing for AC Milan in the final hours of the transfer window. But his medical examination ultimately failed due to a knee problem. After consulting four specialists without consensus, it was decided to spare his leg until after the World Cup, leaving the door open to participation in the World Cup (June 11-July 19), according to The Parisian.

The 28-year-old center forward, however, has no guarantee of being included in Didier Deschamps’ list, as the competition in the offensive sector is high. But despite his delicate situation, Mateta can still hope to hitch the wagon with the Blues… provided that he finds playing time at Palace. The London club, anticipating his departure, had already recruited Jorgan Strand Larsen for €55 million, as well as Brennan Johnson and Evann Guessand to strengthen the attack. The Frenchman therefore remains in a delicate position before next summer.
