This Wednesday evening, Paris Saint-Germain welcomes Newcastle on the final day of the league phase of
the Champions League. The capital club would be well advised to win in order to maintain their place in the Top 8.
However, that’s not what Luis Enrique seems to think.
“If we win, we can finish sixth, but I would sign to lose or draw. And finish in the top fifteen, like last year,” declared the Spanish technician at a press conference.
Surprising comments, given that PSG would have to play two additional matches in an already very busy schedule. “If I am told that I am in the Top 15 and that I win the Champions League at the finish… The real competition begins in the knockout phase”believes the former coach of La Roja.
PSG-Newcastle, the probable lineups
PSG : Chevalier – Hakimi, Marquinhos (c), Pacho, Mendes – Zaire-Emery, Vitinha, Ruiz – Kvaratskhelia, Dembélé, Barcola
Newcastle: Pope – Trippier (c), Thiaw, Botman, Hall – Miley, Tonali, Ramsey – Barnes, Woltemade, Gordon
Remember that the first eight teams in the league phase are immediately qualified for the round of 16 of the C1. They also have the advantage of being seeded, and therefore not facing each other in the next round. As for clubs located between ninth and 24th, they will have to go through play-offs.
