The news appears reassuring for the Magpies after Eddie Howe gave some, albeit cautious, news regarding Bruno Guimaraes’ injury. Yesterday against PSV in the Champions League (3-0), the Newcastle captain, an essential element of the English midfield, was forced to give up his place shortly before the break (45+3), injured in the ankle. After the match, his coach mentioned pain accompanied by slight swelling, without being able to comment on the seriousness of the injury. He then declared: “He feels discomfort and his ankle is a little swollen. We hope it’s nothing serious, but it’s still too early to tell.”.

As a reminder, Guimaraes (28 years old) has made 33 appearances in all competitions this season for eight goals and six assists with his Premier League team, and remains one of the pillars of the squad. The Brazilian’s exit did not particularly change the situation afterwards since Yoane Wissa, Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes scored the three goals sealing the victory at home. This success therefore keeps them in the race for a place in the top 8 of the group stage of the Champions League. They will notably face Paris Saint-Germain away next week (January 28).
