Mohamed Salah’s future on the banks of the Mersey is getting darker day by day. While the Egyptian, soon to be 34 years old, is struggling to regain his former glory under the orders of Arne Slot, an influential voice at the club has publicly campaigned for his departure. Dietmar Hamann, former emblematic midfielder of the Reds, believes that keeping the striker in the squad has become counterproductive. For the German, the “best solution” would now be an amicable divorce at the end of the season to preserve the balance of the club.
A harmful “distraction”
In an interview given to
BetGoatHamann did not mince his words, describing the current situation as
“distraction” permanent for the collective.
“If it stays, it’s hanging around the camp. Every time he doesn’t play, the manager has to justify himself,”
he laments. The former German international also points out recent statements from Salah which he considers incomprehensible, believing that a departure today would benefit both the player and the team.
This position comes as the shadow of the Saudi Pro League still hangs over Anfield. Al-Ittihad, which saw its colossal offer of 150 million pounds rejected in the summer of 2023, could reactivate the track. If Salah had chosen loyalty last year, his sporting status is crumbling. Hamann notes that the Egyptian is now
“shadow of himself”reinforcing the idea that the glorious cycle started in 2017 is inevitably coming to an end.
Farewells in summer?
However, a hasty departure during this winter transfer window seems excluded. The importance of taking care of his exit against the Kop at Anfield remains essential for the man who gave so much to the Scousers. The preferred scenario therefore draws a summer separation, allowing Salah to say his proper farewell on the final day of the championship, before heading off to a probable last lucrative challenge.
