The final of the 2025 African Cup of Nations continues to generate a lot of ink. Last Sunday, Senegal won against Morocco (1-0), in Rabat, after a totally crazy match.
After a goal denied to the Téranga Lions, the Atlas Lions obtained a penalty, a decision which angered the Senegalese, going so far as to temporarily leave the pitch. Back on the field, Brahim Diaz missed his panenka, sending both teams into overtime. Seven minutes later, Pape Gueye liberated Senegal, offering victory and the second star to his team.
A coronation celebrated even in a Belgian D1 bus. Member of the OH Louvain staff, Ibrahima Sonko could not resist the urge to follow the meeting. But the context was far from festive: his team had just lost on the pitch of Saint-Trond (1-0) and found itself in great danger in the fight for survival.
Ibrahima Sonko downgraded
According to Het Nieuwsbladthe former central defender of the Lions of Téranga (5 caps) would have celebrated the Senegalese victory “singing and dancing”. An attitude that was very badly received by the Louvain players, who reportedly complained about it to their management.
The club’s reaction was quick. According to the Belgian press, Sonko was sanctioned. Until now responsible for supporting the first team, with the mission of supervising young talents and facilitating their integration into the professional group, the ex-Grenoble player has been demoted. From now on, he will only work with the U23 team.
