The Strasbourg-Chelsea axis has struck again. Until now materialized by player transfers, the connection between the Alsatian club and the London team has this time taken a completely different turn. Everything accelerated on January 1, when the management of the Blues decided to end their collaboration with Enzo Maresca. The relationship between the Chelsea board and the Italian coach had clearly deteriorated in recent weeks, particularly after several public speeches by the ex-Leicester coach, who was not very tender with his management. Persistent rumors sending him to Manchester City to succeed Pep Guardiola have only accentuated the divide.

Maresca officially dismissed, Chelsea therefore began looking for a new man to guide their team and carry out their ambitions. And very quickly, London leaders targeted a specific profile: Liam Rosenior. Arriving relatively discreetly in Strasbourg in the summer of 2024, the 41-year-old English coach has done remarkable work with the Racing Club. Seventh in Ligue 1 during the 2024-2025 season, qualified for the Europa Conference League, the RCSA even finished at the top of the league phase of the European competition, thus validating its direct ticket to the round of 16. Results which appealed to BlueCo, common shareholder of the two clubs, convinced of having found in Rosenior the ideal man to embody the Blues’ new sporting project.

A new XXL challenge for Rosenior

If he did not hide his budding love for Strasbourg, Rosenior did not deny the discussions with Chelsea when he was questioned about it. Finally, after a final match against Nice (1-1), the Londoner said goodbye to Strasbourg to return to his hometown. “Chelsea Football Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Liam Rosenior as Head Coach of the men’s team. The Englishman has signed a contract with the club which runs until 2032. », Communicated Chelsea this Tuesday.

Rosenior has signed a multi-season contract with the Blues. The English technician will discover both the Premier League and very high-level European games, with the difficult task of doing better than his predecessor. An immense challenge, but tailor-made for a coach on the rise, called to take a new step in his young career as head coach.
