Liam Rosenior and Strasbourg, it’s already over. While the management of the Blues has decided to end its collaboration with Enzo Maresca from the new year 2026, the name of Liam Rosenior naturally emerged to take over at Chelsea, due to the connection between the London club and that of Strasbourg. The 41-year-old English coach was quickly in discussions with BlueCo’s flagship club and confirmed this Tuesday his departure to Stamford Bridge.

“We had exceptional moments with Strasbourg. On Saturday, I didn’t know what was going to happen. I have since had permission to speak with Chelsea. It is an honor for me to be associated with this club. And today, I can say that I am on track for me to be the new coach of this club”confirmed Liam Rosenior to the press, specifying that it was an offer he could not refuse. “It’s not just Chelsea, I’ve had interest from Champions League clubs. But at some point in your life, there are offers you can’t refuse. I couldn’t refuse this opportunity. It’s the world champion club, with an incredible squad, an incredible audience. I can also go home, see my children, my family. No one can question my decision and my involvement in Strasbourg”.

Liam Rosenior responds to criticism of his departure

In his long press conference, Liam Rosenior also had strong words for Strasbourg, ensuring that the timing of his departure “is not perfect. What makes me happy is that the person who will succeed me will help the club to be even more successful. I will always have a connection with David, Marc and the next coach. I hope it will be very successful in the years to come. I haven’t signed yet, but I have agreed with Chelsea. Everything is ok, it should happen in the next few hours. I think he (Keller) wanted me to stay. The focus was on the Nice match. Then I was told the next day that I had permission to travel to London to speak with Chelsea. I appreciate the opportunity I was given. I took it. I spoke to several players. And as soon as it’s official, I’ll make sure I have a word for everyone.”.

Finally, Liam Rosenior responded to criticism linked to his departure mid-season. “I hope not (that the supporters are angry, editor’s note). The reality in football is that there are club levels. Strasbourg’s ambition is to reach the top. Strasbourg is not at the same level as Chelsea. Fans can be proud to say that a manager from their club is considered capable of coaching Chelsea. (…) I am here because I care about this club. When we say that this project in Strasbourg is only for the good of Chelsea, that is false. Is this a lack of respect for Strasbourg? I think the opposite. Chelsea can choose the coach they want. I think it’s incredible that it’s me, and it shows the work done in Strasbourg. For me, it is a great mark of respect for Strasbourg”. As a reminder, Liam Rosenior should not yet be on the Blues bench before the FA Cup match at Charlton on Saturday.
